West Noble Primary School Counseling

alyssa juday

Miss Alyssa has been a school counselor for West Noble since 2007. She attended NorthWood High School and went to college at Manchester College (now University) in North Manchester where she majored in Psychology.  She attended graduate school at Grace College and Saint Francis where she received Master's Degrees in Counseling and in School Counseling.

Miss Alyssa’s mission for the Counseling program at WNP is to build a kindred spirit in our community by teaching West Noble Primary students the joys of acting in kindness and compassion that leave our school corporation and our neighborhood a safe and loving place to learn and grow.

In 2015, West Noble Primary students spoke to the Ligonier City Council and requested a proclamation to declare a Kindness Day in Ligonier. The request was granted by Mayor Fisel. The last Friday in May has been declared “Kindness Day” in the city of Ligonier.

A Note from Miss Alyssa

“One of the greatest joys in my life is having the opportunity to be West Noble Primary’s school counselor. My goal every year is to teach our kindergarten and first graders how to be courageous and compassionate leaders. I want them to be kids who know their worth and have the confidence to know that they can make a difference.”

Counseling Program

Students may be referred to Miss Alyssa for behavioral and social emotional issues both at school and at home.

Classroom Lessons

While at West Noble Primary your child will have classroom lessons with Miss Alyssa every week. This classroom time is called “Building Leaders”. During this time students will learn a plethora of social and coping skills. These lessons focus on  areas of – Academic, Career, and Social/Emotional Development. All grades get lessons on bullying as well.

We use the “Little Spot Curriculum”. Spots of color are easy to visualize, and if your child can visualize their feelings or emotions as a color, it is easier to manage. The goal is to help children navigate their emotions into a positive reaction. We believe that emotions affect learning, behavior, and social skills.

Individual Visits

Sometimes students may need a safe place to discuss a topic, such as friendship issues, worries, family relationships, etc. Students are always able to come to me if they are having big feelings that are impeding on their learning. Parents, teachers, and students can make requests to meet with me on an individual basis.
